Bull Run
The Bull Run was the first major of the armies in Virginia. On July 21st General McDowell crossed the Sudley ford and attacked the confederate left flank on Matthews Hill. Fighting raged throughout day as the confederates were being driven back.
Antietam
The Antietam was know as the "Bloodiest One Day Battle in American History". 23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded, or missing after only 12 hours of battle. The Antietam took place on September 17, 1862.
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation was an order given on January 1, 1863 by Abraham Lincoln to free the slaves. But it had its limitations.It only freed the slaves in the Confederate States that were not under Union control. However it did eventually set millions of slaves free.
Gettysburg
The Confederate Army was led by General Robert E. Lee along with General's Longstreet and Pickett. The Union Army was led by General George Meade. The Battle took place over three days. On the first day the armies were still coming together. The Confederates outnumbered the Union the first day and caused them to retreat through the town of Gettysburg to the south side of town. The last battle of the war the Battle of Gettysburg.
The Gettysburg Address
The Gettysburg Address is a speech delivered by Abraham Lincoln at the November 19, 1863, dedication of Soldier’s National Cemetery, a cemetery for Union soldiers killed at the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War.
