Long Term Causes
A long term cause from the civil war is the conflict, because it helped pave a way for abolishing slavery. This was a long term cause that helped unify the races and the nation. Another long term cause was Industrialization. When the war ended the north started to industrialize. Cities grew bigger, factories started up and industry was at its biggest.
Triggering Events
The Missouri Compromise passed in 1820 made a rule that prohibited slavery in states from the former Louisiana Purchase the latitude 36 degrees 30 minutes north except in Missouri. Conflicts started on what would happen with the new territories that the US gained. Abolitionist wanted slavery to be abolished to any new states, but the southerners wanted new states to stay with slavery.
